Poll Hero Internship 2021: Promote Democracy on TikTok.

In 2020, The Poll Hero Project, an all-volunteer effort with essentially no budget, successfully recruited more than 37,000 high school and college students to be poll workers during the pandemic election of 2020. In 2021, we are focused on using social media to educate young people about non-partisan, pro-democracy issues.

The Internship

6 high school and college students will have an opportunity to hone their entrepreneurial skills and produce educational and entertaining TikTok content that promotes non-partisan democracy issues like voting rights, reducing the corrupting influence of money in politics, and gerrymandering.

Interns will research democracy issues, write their own copy, film themselves performing the pieces, edit, publish, and measure.
A rapid, experimental entrepreneurial approach will be used to identify what types of videos get seen, shared, and liked the most.
Interns should expect to spend about 20 hours a week on the project.
If you already have a summer job but have extra time, you can still apply provided your schedule has some flexibility so we can meet for 30 minutes 3 times a week.
Internship stipend of $1,500. There are 6 positions total. Applicants will be selected by our social media leadership team. Since different schools let out at different times, the internship will run from the Monday after your school lets out until 1 week before you start school in the fall. Make a TikTok! Identify a non-partisan, pro-democracy issue that’s important to you. Research it, write a 1-minute script, come up with a creative way to present it, film yourself on TikTok, and edit the piece. DON’T POST IT. Instead, screen record the video on your phone, upload it to Google Drive, make the URL public, and paste the link here.
